We start out taking <a href=\"#pic\" onClick=\"document.main_photo.src='\/img\/walks\/alt-penedes\/gelida\/funicular.jpg';\">the 1924 funicular<\/a> to a hilltop village with some rather nice <em>modernista<\/em> villas, a 16th century baronial fortified town house, and a <a href=\"#pic\" onClick=\"document.main_photo.src='\/img\/walks\/alt-penedes\/gelida\/castell.jpg';\">a scarey castle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Then it's up through some wonderful damp natural <a href=\"#pic\" onClick=\"document.main_photo.src='\/img\/walks\/alt-penedes\/gelida\/forest.jpg';\">forest<\/a>, with splendid views back over the Pened\u00e8s plain to Montserrat and forward to the coast.<\/p>\n<p>Next stop is an 11th century Benedictine priory (mass and visits on first Sunday of the month), after which we head down into small town on the other side of the hills, with a lovely little church street and opportunities to chat up the petanque players.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This walk takes you from village to village over part of the wild massif behind Sitges.
