Placing of the foundation stone for the works on the old port with a privilege from Alfonso IV of Barcelona granted the year before. Severe weather three months later destroyed the first construction and the works were suspended; and, although by resolution of the Council of 100 reaching in 1441, the works should have been continued, the project was not carried out until some years later using a new site.
