Pine processionary caterpillars leaving nest several months early

   we have become aware of these nasty caterpillars in spain. we have no pets or chidren but our friends 2 dogs were in contact with these nasty insects last year both losing some of their tongues.we have destroyed nests as we have found them and also the trails that have crossed our garden from neighbours trees.have been topld that they can be deadly if ingesed is this correct
