Abdul Bari Jahani told IWPR, “This is in fact not a poem, but a list of tribes.” The old Yugoslav one worked on the same basis, with each republic having a section of its own anthem included, which is why it took hours to play at football matches.

I like the old national anthem. Garm sha laa garm sha, Ey de azaadi lmara, Ey de naikmarghi lmara,

I don’t really like any of these “national anthems.” What I actually like to be our national anthem is the classic patriotic song titled “Watan Ishq e Tu Iftikharam.”
It is timeless, peerless and just truly excellent. This is the only song that can give me the cold chills.
