A Spanish friend once freaked me by referring to what Follow The Baldie does as “footing“. De Standaard’s language blog says that in Spanish the term refers to walking/rambling, while the Royal Academy definition approximates to “jogging” (a point on which the Italians seem to agree) and has the word arriving via the French, who (probably intentionally) misunderstood the English original. However, in Pugilismo (Técnica y reglamentación del boxeo) (Barcelona, 1954) Fabricio Valserra says it is a training exercise consisting of a couple of kilometres walking, followed by a short sprint, followed by more walking, ad infinitum (or maybe ad tabernam, where all meaning becomes hazy at a certain point in time).
