Reading (and trying to sing) bits of Jack Kerouac’s Mexico City Blues over lunch, I came across the following in the 118th chorus:
A musician once told me that, during one of Ms Vaughan’s London shows (I guess this must have been in the 50s), he walked past her door, looked in, and there she was, widelegged and somewhat underdressed, swinging back on her chair. The impression this made on him must have been apparent for all to see, because she roared something along the lines of: “Come in honey if you want some more of that!”
I think I know what Kerouac is getting at, although I haven’t met this meme anywhere else.
