Sez the OED:
Miquelets (miqueletes, miquelites, migueletes), supposedly derived from Miquel de Prats/Miquelot de Prats (Grec), was, according to the OED, a term that was used in the C17th to indicate bandits in the Catalan Pyrenees and that was later reused to refer to various Spanish and French irregulars. When though, and where, did the Miquelets start eating toads, and did they really do it professionally?
