Sofabitch

Those of you who share my support for the struggle against illegitimate power and privilege will have been delighted by the defeat last week in single combat of that decadent Spanish aristocrat, Rubén Ramírez Hidalgo, by a humble English poultry farmer, Tim Henman. (As you know, hidalgo (”nobleman”) is but a concertina arrangement of hijo de algo (”son of something”).)

Interestingly, son of a bitch seems to be undergoing the same process as hidalgo, having transitioned first to sonofabitch and now, during a discussion of gaming rules, to sofabitch:

I am not yet sure whether I want my choir to refer to me as their solfabitch.
