Talking gay, the Christians are coming to get you

Life really is much better now that many Christians and some Muslims realise that chopping up and burning gays and lesbians does not generate good PR. Contemporary hate money goes on marketing campaigns based - quelle surprise! - on mumbo-jumbo:

Christians Must Learn New Language to Reach Homosexuals, Expert Says

By Allie Martin and Jenni Parker
June 25, 2004

(AgapePress) - A former homosexual says Christians need to do a better job when it comes to ministering to those who want to leave the homosexual lifestyle.

[Mike Haley manages the Homosexuality and Gender Department for Focus on the Family ... involved in the homosexual subculture ... delivered from that lifestyle ... God's grace and Christian counseling ... married ... two sons ... Chairman of the Board of Exodus International ... interdenominational ministry ... the unreached people group known as the gay and lesbian community]

Haley contends that many Christians use language homosexuals find difficult to understand. For example he quotes the common expression, “Love the sinner and hate the sin.” He says in the minds of many homosexual men and lesbian women whose identity is very much wrapped up in their lifestyle — as his once was — a phrase like “love the sinner, hate the sin” simply does not make sense.

“We all understand that from a pew perspective,” the former homosexual explains, “but let me tell you what you’re saying to the person that is receiving that: They were saying to me ultimately, ‘Mike, I love you, but I don’t love what you’re doing.’ But see, the problem was, I was defined by what I was doing. So to hate what I was doing was to hate me.”

Haley feels Bible-believing Christians often have the best intentions in the world but simply are not making themselves understood to people trapped in the homosexual lifestyle. For that reason, he says Christians, “need to learn a language that will draw these people to Christ and help to minister to those who so desperately need our Savior.”

I suspect that what Mike Haley is really dying for is a love the sinner, love the sin approach which, to the uninformed and the malignant, might seem suspiciously like him having his cake in Ajax, Ontario and then eating it during periodic, deductible trips to the sin-ridden but economical Far East, one of the mission’s chief targets. Here, from Rotten.com, is the career trajectory of another deprogramming celebrity:

1987 John Paulk gives up the homosexual lifestyle.
21 Apr 1993 John Paulk tells the Wall Street Journal that he and his wife have a long way to go: “I had no sexual interest in women at all. But when you begin a relationship with a woman that you believe God has led you to, then you develop attraction to that person. To say that we’ve arrived at this place of total heterosexuality — that we’re totally healed — is misleading.”
1998 John Paulk joins Focus on the Family.
27 Jul 1998 Time magazine reports that it cannot locate a single ex-girlfriend of John Paulk’s “former lesbian” wife, Anne. In fact, the magazine reports that John “conceded that her ties to women in college were ‘more emotional than sexual.’”
17 Aug 1998 Newsweek magazine’s cover story is “Gay for Life?” with a photo of Mr. and Mrs. John Paulk, two former homosexuals who overcame their sinful proclivities through Christian prayer.
19 Sep 2000 After lounging around for 40 minutes, John Paulk is photographed inside Mr. P’s, a famous gay bar in Washington, D.C.
3 Oct 2000 John Paulk is ejected from the board of Exodus.
Mar 2001 John Paulk returns to the board of Exodus.
29 Jan 2001 Jeremy Marks, director of Courage, United Kingdom, leaves the group after announcing: “None of the people we’ve counseled have converted no matter how much effort and prayer they’ve put into it. There is much more benefit to the more honest view.”
6 May 2003 John Paulk quits Focus on the Family, in order that he can (ironically enough) spend more time with his own family. “I will always have a heart for men and women struggling with homosexuality, but after working 16 years on this contentious issue, it’s time for me to pursue other endeavors.”

In general it’s bad to hit the schadenfreude before sundown, but Haley, Paulk and the rest of this mafia use whatever personal experiences they believe they have had in order to damage others with a less well constructed public facade. I believe Haley to be a revolting fraud, and the cat has been ordered to stay clear of the roll-around-laughing rug pending news of his exploits and dismissal.

    >I was defined by what I was doing.

But that was then; now, on the contrary, he is defined by what he was doing (”former homosexual“).

Er… I am confused. Am I a potential future former homosexual, or what?
