Dirty dolls

Apparently the fine children’s illustrator Honor Appleton (1879-1951) was not such a good girl after all:

She had … a puckish, not to mention smutty wit – as evidenced by her illustration … of a little girl playing with her dolls, two of whom are locked in sexual congress on the floor. Nobody to my knowledge has commented on this delightful scene. Even the other dolls have noticed.

Check it out (or not). (This site is rather like Tarragona in the old days: a treasure trove in which one can easily spend a couple of weeks just wandering around.)
