Three bags full

Italian adopt-a-sheep scheme

Trevor @ Monday February 9th 2004 20:51

The Italian minister of agriculture, Gianni Alemanno, has announced that he is going to climb K2. His assumption is presumably that Berlusconi’s going to have to go (to prison) at some stage, and that if he smuggles 50 sheep up with him he’ll be able to live off the subsidies for the rest of his life. Think again, Gianni, for it’s hard up in them there hills. So hard, in fact, that Bioagriturismo “La Porta dei Parchi” in Anversa degli Abruzzi is putting its sheep up for adoption. This is the deal:

To adopt a sheep in the productive age costs €190 per year, renewable for 5 years. Adoption gives you the right to collect the yearly product of the sheep, which is quantified as follows:
· Adoption certificate, identity card and picture of the sheep
· 2 Kg of pecorino cheese of any seasoning and size
· 2 Kg of juniper-smoked ricotta
· 1 pair of 100 % vergin wool trekking socks
· 1 Kg of salamelle di tratturo (sheep-salami) ALTENATIVE for vegetarians: 1 kg of Caciocavallo
· 5 lt olive oil
· FREIGHT COSTS BY PRIORITY MAIL INCLUDED

Alternatively the purchaser may also pay the smaller sum of €140 and you receive:
· Adoption certificate, identity card and picture of the sheep
· 3 kg pecorino cheese
· 1 kg of juniper-smoked ricotta
· 1 Kg of salamelle di tratturo (sheep-salami)
· 1 pair of trekking socks
· FREIGHT COSTS BY PRIORITY MAIL INCLUDED

I assume the bit about the freight costs is for when the sheep decides it’s had enough of Italian politics and comes to visit you, Paddington style. Does anyone want to adopt my cat via PayPal?
