You probably saw the story run by the Telegraph yesterday re the siting of the Dracula theme park down on Ceausescu’s farm. Fine, but I do think it’s time to move on from this type of old, bad news and celebrate the dawning in global consciousness of Romania as the new Rome. For, although we old people are still unaware of what’s happening, bright young things are already putting the tawdry glamour of America behind them and yearn to learn to rap in Romanian with Emil Miculescu, MA and 2003 Slavic and East European Poetry Slam prize-winning rap artist. Confirming Bucharest as the contemporary epicentre of cultural creation, Popbitch has beaten Variety to the following story:
A Columbian man, Jaime Esfels, has been arrested in Bucharest, Romania for impersonating Ya Kid K, the female rapper with Belgian dance act Technotronic. Esfels had been given VIP treatment by clubs, hotels and radio stations and had rapped live to Technotronic tracks in clubs across Romania, where the band still has a loyal following. Police were tipped off by a fan who noticed Esfels using the men’s toilet.
I just found another picture of some extremely sinister looking Romanian rappers on Prentiss Riddle’s site.

Thanks for the link. As I’ve commented elsewhere, I’m getting quite a few hits from people looking for “vampire language” and I can’t figure out which pop culture virus is sending them my way.
Regardless, if a few of them end up learning Rumanian, good for them…

I can’t remember how I found it or how I acquired such a distinguished necklace of toothmarks.
