Ik ga vanmiddag naar het film noir festival te Manresa om Parranda (1977) te zien en dan naar director Gonzalo Suárez te luisteren. Dichter bij wat ik beschouw als de plaatselijke traditie is Pedro Tembourys Kárate a Muerte en Torremolinos (2001), nu uit op DVD. Deze film schijnt nog slechter te zijn dan de mythische Attack of the Robots (1966) van de inmiddels 73-jarige Jesús Franco, die in dit nieuwe meesterwerk Miyagi speelt.
Maar in Manresa heb je geen katholieke surfers, geen adolescente maagden, geen zombie karateka's. De laatste trein naar Barcelona vertrekt - dacht ik - om een uur of 10. Als je �35km verder gaat - wel met de bus van Alsina Graells, zo'n vier keer per dag - kom je in Cardona terecht. Daar is de industrie weg en - zoals MIT laat zien als onderdeel van hun open onderwijs strategie - ze weten niet echt hoe het verder moet. Er moet een keer in Cardona een film gemaakt worden, voordat de pretplanners het redden.
Hollanders en Spanjaarden en Catalanen doen het wel, maar die rare Engelsen vertalen de woorden film noir niet. Waarom?
