Thief of Baghdad

Barcelona has been known for its Moorish thieves for at least 1200 years, and last night a friend had an encounter with a couple of Moroccan thieves, from which he fortunately escaped with property and person intact. Police say that roughly 80% of street robberies are committed by young North African males, and inevitably some of them have told their story. Terry Jones’s rather elderly street scam page has Bob Arno’s report on Barcelona and a couple of pickpockets who retired to Morocco after a career on La Rambla. However, we’re here for the beer, and Arabic News has the ultimate Arab crime and punishment joke. I’d like to see Douglas Fairbanks fight his way out of that one.
