Probably the most romantic train ride in Spain with, for those of a more serious bent, views of 60s and 70s slums, 1,050MW combined cycle power station, and the façade of factory where Mr Bosch used to make Anis del Mono for Mr Hemingway. Coffee in main bar followed by purchase of bread, cheese and sausages. Obelix-inspired patriotic monument. Tapas at C18th sanctuary + café. Views to neighbouring castles and up coast. Umbrella pine (Pinus pinea) and holly oak (Quercus ilex) forests on granitoid hillsides, with large boulders. Picnic in hilltop meadows outside C10th/15th hermitage + spring in Serra de Marina. Excellent views over coastal plain, including Barcelona (ca20km), Montjuic, Norman Foster’s Collserola tower, and power station, as well as over Montseny and the hills behind and, if you’re lucky, Montserrat (45km). C16th sundial & church. Post walk drinks at one of the town’s stranger bars, or swimming off the beach, or visit to textile museum in art nouveau gas factory. (More photos in the blog.) |
Sources for this walk included Josep Nuet i Badia’s Rutes a Peu, the 1:50K ICC map, and materials produced by the Consorci del Parc Serralada del Litoral and ACNA SL.
Hitting go! on this form sends me email telling what you're interested in. I'll then send you more information and a price, generally €30 per person + €20 fixed. There are ample discounts for large families or individuals with potential for generating interesting conversations with lazy old men along the way--star soccer players, pigeon fanciers and women in search of a haircut spring to mind. Minimum prices apply. Even cheaper walks here.
